Law Enforcement:

Man accused of assaulting woman, forcing her into prostitution

A transient man from Los Angeles was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly sexually assaulted a woman in Las Vegas and forced her to prostitute herself, Metro Police said in an arrest report.

Charles A. Ford, 49, was arrested Tuesday and is being charged with six counts of sexual assault, pandering, coercion and living from the earnings of a prostitute. He is being held in the Clark County Detention Center without bail.

According to an arrest report, the woman told police she came into contact with Ford after she left her home in Alberta, Canada, to escape a boyfriend who was stalking her. She met a woman stranded in Los Angeles known as “Annette” who said she needed a ride to Las Vegas. She agreed to drive her to Las Vegas and Annette told her they’d be meeting Ford’s friend.

She told police the two eventually arrived at the Travelodge Motel, 5075 Koval Lane, on Jan. 1 and met Ford and his friend, the report said. Ford’s friend asked her to rent a room since none of them had proper identification or credit cards.

Once in the room, Ford asked for her license and took down her personal information. He then told her she belonged to him and took her car keys and cell phone, the report said. Ford then explained the “prostitution game” to the woman, she told police.

According to the report, Ford allegedly forced her to work with Annette, who he said would instruct her. They returned to the motel and the alleged victim gave Ford $1,700 she made from prostitution at local truck stops.

Over the next two days, the woman told police, Ford sexually assaulted her in the motel room numerous times, then ordered her to prostitute herself.

On Monday evening, she told police, Ford ordered her to work the Strip by herself and said he would be watching her. Believing that Ford had sent someone to follow her, she walked to Hooters and told a security official about the situation.

Metro Police arrived at the Travelodge and found Ford’s friend leaving another motel room and took him into custody. He then identified Ford, who was arrested.

After obtaining a search warrant, police found the alleged victim’s cell phone, car keys and personal belongings. A medical exam found bruising indicative of sexual assault.

Ford is scheduled to appear in court Friday morning.
