Sandoval orders flags at half staff to honor last surviving World War I vet

CARSON CITY – Gov. Brian Sandoval has ordered flags at state buildings to fly at half staff today to honor Frank W. Buckles, the last surviving U.S. veteran of World War I.

Buckles, an Army corporal, died Feb. 27 at the age of 110 and is being buried today at Arlington National Cemetery within sight of his commander, Gen. John Pershing.

Sandoval said, “Corporal Buckles and the entire generation of American veterans of World War I deserve to be remembered. We can never thank them enough for their service.”

The flags will be at half staff until sunset today.
