Clouds bring a few sprinkles, keep temperatures down

Prepare for sudden sprinkles — all those clouds rolling through Southern Nevada will continue to splash the Las Vegas Valley with a few drops of rain through early this evening.

“Most of the rain is going to be fairly light, if anything — just enough to wet the ground,” said Christ Stachelski, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service Office in Las Vegas.

The heaviest rainfall reported this morning was near Robindale and Pecos roads just southeast of McCarran International Airport, where a resident measured about .03 of an inch, Stachelski said.

Since about 4 a.m., McCarran has had several spurts of rain, but so far less than 0.01 of an inch of rain has been recorded there.

Trace amounts of rain have also been measured at Henderson Executive Airport, North Las Vegas Airport and Nellis Air Force Base, according to the weather service.

Although they aren’t bringing a lot of rainfall, the clouds are keeping temperatures down, Stachelski said. Today’s afternoon high is expected to climb to 102 degrees — cooler than what’s expected later in the week he said.

Tuesday’s afternoon high will climb to 108. And temperatures will be even hotter — at least 110 degrees — from Wednesday through the weekend, Stachelski said.

“It’s going to be a little below record heat, but well above normal,” he said.
