A 17-year-old girl injured in a hit-and-run crash on New Year’s Day died at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, according to the Clark County coroner’s office.

Mayra Verduzco of Las Vegas — initially reported to be 16 years old — died in the hospital about 11:54 a.m. Sunday, officials said.

Verduzco was in the rear passenger seat of a 2000 Volkswagen Passat when it was rear-ended by a 2004 Cadillac Deville about 2:15 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of Eastern and Canosa avenues, Metro Police said.

Three other people in the Volkswagen, Verduzco’s 48-year-old mother, Lorena, a 2-month old baby and a 15-year-old boy suffered minor injuries, police said.

Witnesses told police the Cadillac hit the Volkswagen, which was headed south on Eastern, causing the Volkswagen to run off the road, police said.

The Cadillac hit the median, rolled onto its roof and slid into the intersection of Eastern and St. Louis avenues, police said.

An unknown number of passengers and the driver of the Cadillac fled on foot before police arrived, officials said.

The crash is under investigation, police said. Anyone with information about the crash can call Crime Stoppers at 385-5555 or Metro Detective Sean Lethbridge at 828-3786.
