A two-vehicle collision at a red light Wednesday evening in Spring Valley killed a 45-year-old man, Metro Police said.

Police said the man, identified by the Clark County Coroner's Office as Las Vegas resident Joel Ronia, died when the Toyota Corolla he was driving struck another vehicle at 6:29 p.m. at the intersection of Desert Inn Road and Rainbow Boulevard.

The preliminary investigation indicates a 1989 Ford Bronco, driven by a 16-year-old girl, was traveling east on Desert Inn Road in the left turn lane to go north on Rainbow Boulevard, authorities reported.

Meanwhile, Ronia was driving west on Desert Inn Road in the right travel lane, police said.

As the girl entered the intersection and started to turn the Ford, the traffic signal turned red, police said. Reports showed that Ronia drove into the intersection, failing to stop for the red light at Rainbow Boulevard, and the Toyota collided with the Ford.

Ronia was transported to University Medical Center’s trauma unit, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The teen girl driving the Ford Bronco suffered minor injuries, police said. There were no other passengers in the vehicles.

The accident investigation is ongoing. It’s the second traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction this year.
