North Las Vegas Police arrested Terhain Woods, 20, in connection with a fatal shooting Sunday night.

A man arrested in connection with a fatal shooting Sunday in North Las Vegas is expected to have his first court appearance early Thursday in North Las Vegas Justice Court.

Terhain Woods, 20, Las Vegas, is scheduled for a court hearing Thursday, according to North Las Vegas Detention Center records. His appearance is most likely to be at 8:15 a.m. via video conferencing , according to a court clerk.

Woods, who is being held without bail, was arrested for the slaying of Quincy Lavelle Hill, 31, who died of gunshot wounds to the head and pelvis, the Clark County Coroner’s Office reported.

He is also accused of shooting another victim, a 28-year-old man who has not yet been identified.

North Las Vegas Police said it appears a fight broke out among a small group of friends gathered in a backyard, leading to gunfire, which struck the two victims.

The shooting happened at 10:08 p.m. Sunday in the 2600 block of Ward Street, near Martin Luther King Boulevard and June Avenue. Police had responded to reports of gunfire, but said they did not locate any victims when they arrived.

Twenty minutes later, a police dispatcher received information that two gunshot victims had arrived at University Medical Center, police said.

Hill died of his injuries at the hospital. The other man suffered injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening, police said.

Woods was arrested on one count of murder with a deadly weapon and one count of attempted murder with a deadly weapon. He was booked into the NLV Detention Center just after 4 p.m. Tuesday, jail records show.

Hill’s death is the first homicide in 2012 in North Las Vegas, police said.

Authorities urge anyone with information to call the North Las Vegas Police Department at (702) 633-9111. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555.
