Tire fire prompted road closure, firefighters report

A fire that closed a stretch of North Rancho Drive for two hours late Wednesday involved a stack of tires behind a northwest valley business, fire officials said.

Las Vegas Fire and Rescue spokesman Tim Syzmanski said dispatchers received numerous calls at 11:47 p.m. about the fire behind a tire shop at 4820 N. Rancho Drive, near Lone Mountain Road.

Firefighters arrived to find a large pile of tires engulfed in flames behind the shop, he said. They quickly brought the fire under control, preventing it from spreading to the building and neighboring businesses, he said.

No one was injured, and the building was not damaged, Szymanski said. The fire was extinguished in less than 30 minutes.

Fire investigators have not determined a cause or released a damage estimate.
