Father, son pulled from Lake Mohave identified

A boy and his father who died Sunday after they fell off a raft at Six Mile Cove in Lake Mohave have been identified by the Clark County coroner’s office.

Pablo Hernandez Cortez, 37, and his son, 2-year-old Angel Gabriel Hernandez, were found floating in the water late Sunday morning. They were from North Las Vegas, officials said.

Authorities at Lake Mead National Recreation Area received a call at 11:18 a.m. that the boy and his father, who were not wearing life jackets, had been pulled from the water.

Bystanders saw them floating, brought them to shore and performed CPR until park rangers arrived. Medics pronounced the man dead by presumed drowning.

The child was flown to University Medical Center, where he later died, officials said.

“I try and stress at all times to wear your life jackets and, in addition, always keep sight of your children,” Assistant Chief Ranger Randy Lavasseur said.

Park rangers are investigating the incident.
