Baby's body found

The head of Metro's homicide detail says police have few clues about the identity of the baby whose body was found this morning in a trash bin at an apartment complex near the North Las Vegas Airport.

Lt. Ray Steiber said police have estimated the baby's age around 3 to 6 months. Police were not yet releasing the infant's gender, race or cause of death.

Steiber said a maintenance worker found the body around 8 a.m. in a trash bin.

Steiber, who was among the Metro officers on the scene today at the Rancho Mesa Apartments, 2881 N. Rancho Drive, wondered aloud how people could commit such crimes but vowed authorities would solve the case.

"We will leave no stone unturned until we figure out what happened," he said.
