Warming into the 90s for Las Vegas

Winds expected to be light today as temperatures begin to climb through weekend

It might be a good time to head for the pool — dry weather with temperatures warming to well above normal are heading to Las Vegas, according to the National Weather Service.

Sunny skies with highs in the low 90s are on the way this afternoon to the Las Vegas Valley, forecasters said.

Highs today are expected to range from 86 degrees on the west side of the valley to around 95 degrees on the east side, they said.

Winds are expected to be light today, with little chance for dust devils to form again like those that caused some building damage Monday, says Kevin Janison, KSNV-TV meteorologist.

The system that brought in the dust devils on Monday has gone to the south, Janison said.

"As that continues to moves southward, high pressure moves in from the west and it really sets the table for what will be a beautiful stretch of weather, if you don't mind it a little on the warm side," he said.

Highs will climb into the upper 90s through the weekend, with Mother's Day expecting to be around 98 degrees, he said.

This morning’s low at McCarran International Airport was expected to be 70 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 64 degrees. The record low was 42 degrees, set in 1938.

Temperatures at McCarran were to rise today to 78 degrees by 9 a.m., to 87 degrees by noon and reach a high of 93 degrees by 3 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 87 degrees and the record high was 100 degrees, set in 2001.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 92 degrees by 6 p.m., to 85 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 79 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Thursday's morning low will be 72 degrees and Thursday's high will climb to 96 degrees, they said.
