Las Vegas heating up to near 100 degrees

Winds make a return, with southerly gusts up to 30 mph today

Get ready for another warm day — temperatures will climb into the upper 90s this afternoon in Las Vegas, says Kevin Janison, KSNV-TV meteorologist.

"We'll make another shot at 100 degrees," Janison said.

Temperatures will range from highs of 91 degrees on the west side of the valley to around 99 degrees on the east side, according to the National Weather Service.

Winds will be back today, coming in from the south about 10 to 15 mph, gusting to 25 mph in the afternoon, forecasters said.

"We could get a couple of gusts around 30 mph," Janison said.

Dry weather with above-normal temperatures in the mid 90s to the upper 90s can be expected through the weekend, he said.

"Temperatures ramp up as we head toward Mothers Day," Janison said.

Isolated afternoon thunderstorms may develop over the Sierra and the mountains of the southern Great Basin starting on Monday, the weather service said.

This morning’s low at McCarran International Airport was expected to be 70 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 64 degrees. The record low was 41 degrees, set in 1948.

Temperatures at McCarran were to rise today to 81 degrees by 9 a.m., to 91 degrees by noon and reach a high of 97 degrees by 3 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 87 degrees and the record high was 102 degrees, set in 1940.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 96 degrees by 6 p.m., to 88 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 81 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Friday's morning low will be 72 degrees and Friday's high will climb to 94 degrees, they said.
