Hot, dry and windy for Las Vegas

First official 100-degree day expected on Wednesday at McCarran

Hot and windy weather is on the way again to the Las Vegas Valley today, with temperatures hitting the 100s again in parts of the valley.

A weak low pressure system will move across northern and central Nevada today, says Kevin Janison, KSNV-TV meteorologist.

“As it does, it’s going to be responsible for an increase in the breezes and the temperatures are going to kick up,” Janison said.

Winds are expected to be from the south to southwest at 10 to 15 mph, gusting around 25 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Highs are expected to range from around 89 degrees on the west side of the valley to around 100 degrees on the east side, the weather service said.

Temperatures will continue to be well above normal through Thursday, with the first 100-degree reading of the season being forecast for Wednesday afternoon at McCarran International Airport, forecasters said.

Lighter winds are expected on Wednesday, but another low pressure system will bring breezy to windy conditions to the region Thursday through Friday, the weather service said.

This morning’s low at McCarran was expected to be 73 degrees. The normal low for today's date is 66 degrees. The record low was 44 degrees, set in 1968.

Temperatures at McCarran were to rise today to 83 degrees by 9 a.m., to 91 degrees by noon and reach a high of 97 degrees by 4 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 89 degrees and the record high was 107 degrees, set in 1937.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 96 degrees by 6 p.m., to 88 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 82 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Wednesday's morning low will be 72 degrees and Wednesday's high will climb to 100 degrees, they said.
