PHOENIX — A man who did more than 40 years in prison in a deadly Tucson fire says he spent his first hours of freedom enjoying a hike and a burger from a fast-food joint.
Louis Taylor was released Tuesday after doubts about his conviction surfaced and he entered a no-contest plea.
At a news conference, Taylor fought back tears as he looked back on his case and talked about his newfound freedom, including his visit to an In-N-Out Burger.
He said the world has changed since he went to prison. He noted that "they only had 8 tracks in 1970," and said he struggled to use what he called an "Apple telephone."
The 1970 fire killed 29 people, and Taylor was given a life sentence.
