The Bishop Gorman High football team’s season opener Aug. 23 in the Sollenberger Classic against visiting Mountain Pointe of Arizona will be televised nationally by the new Fox Sports 1, game organizers announced Tuesday.

Fox’s new all-day sports network aims to compete with ESPN, giving invaluable exposure to the annual border war game between Nevada and Arizona schools, and nationally ranked Gorman.

The network is scheduled to launch Aug. 17 and will replace the Speed Network (Channel 329) for Las Vegas area Cox Communications subscribers.

Also on Tuesday, Gorman's Sept. 6 game at Santa Margarita in Southern California was picked up by Fox Sports West. The Gaels were already scheduled to play on ESPNU Oct. 4 when it hosts Booker T. Washington High of Miami on ESPNU, giving them 12 nationally televised games since 2009.

Liberty’s Sollenberger game Aug. 24 against Tucson’s Salpointe Catholic might also wind up on one of the Fox networks.
