A 68-year-old former paralegal who was arrested in August and accused of plotting to kill Las Vegas police officers to advance an anti-government sovereign citizen philosophy pleaded guilty Thursday to a much reduced charge, and a judge set her free.
Devon Newman pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit false imprisonment, a gross misdemeanor that could have gotten her one year in jail.
Clark County District Court Judge Elissa Cadish gave Newman one year probation and ordered her to have no contact with former co-defendant David Allen Brutsche.
He's a 42-year-old ex-convict from California, and remains jailed on $200,000 bail pending trial March 10 on a felony conspiracy to commit kidnapping charge.
He could face six years in state prison.
Prosecutor Thomas Carroll says Newman had no prior criminal record.
