Firefighters in southern Nevada are battling a wildfire that a U.S. Bureau of Land Management spokeswoman says has grown to more than a square mile on the west side of Mount Charleston near Pahrump.
BLM spokeswoman Hillerie Patton said Tuesday that no injuries were reported and no structures were immediately threatened by the fire discovered in the Carpenter Canyon area of the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area northwest of Las Vegas.
Officials think the fire, dubbed Carpenter 1, was sparked by lightning.
Estimates put the fire at about 1,000 acres.
Patton says it's burning in pinyon-juniper forest about two miles from homes in the Trout Canyon area.
More than two dozen firefighters are being helped by a single-engine air tanker and a helicopter.
Patton says additional firefighters have been requested.
