Pilot had engine woes before Boulder City crash

Federal investigators say the pilot of a small plane that crashed last month in Boulder City reported engine trouble before the single-engine aircraft went down, killing him and a passenger.

Joseph Edwards of Las Vegas and his passenger, Cody Hall of North Las Vegas, both were Nevada National Guardsmen.

The National Transportation Safety Board says they were flying in a Beach A-45 from Chandler, Ariz., to the North Las Vegas Airport on June 23 when they radioed they were having engine problems.

The NTSB's preliminary report says the plane apparently lost an engine cylinder but that Hall indicated they had things under control on their approach to the Boulder City Airport.

KSNV-TV reports that controllers cleared the plane to land but had no contact with the pilot after that.
