Public Safety:

Blaze, gas spill cause $100,000 in damage in east Las Vegas

House Fire

A large house fire Sunday caused around $100,000 in damage and challenged 35 responding firefighters after large amounts of gasoline flowed out of the two-story home's garage in east Las Vegas.

Firefighters responded to the call around 3 a.m. Sunday at a home in the 4000 block of Cincinnati Avenue, near Lamb Boulevard and Sahara Avenue, Clark County Fire Department spokeswoman Kelly Blackmon said.

The home's garage was fully engulfed at the time of arrival, and as first responders began their attack, a large amount of gasoline from vehicles inside seeped out of the garage, Blackmon said. Firefighters combated the gasoline spill by switching to a foam solution to put out the blaze, she said.

A family of four was sleeping when the fire broke out and successfully evacuated after a passerby who saw the fire started banging on the home's front door and yelling to awake the family, Blackmon said.

The fire, which began in the garage, substantially damaged the garage and some portions of the home, Blackmon said. No official cause of the fire has been determined, but Blackmon said the blaze was most likely accidental.
