After dispute, woman arrives home to find apartment ablaze, officials say

Area of fire

A fire early Thursday in an apartment near UNLV might have started because of a domestic disturbance, fire officials said.

A woman contacted Metro Police a little before 2:30 a.m. Thursday about a domestic incident at her apartment at Rochelle Manor Apartments, 4340 Escondido St., and reported she returned to find her residence ablaze, according to Deputy Chief Erik Newman of the Clark County Fire Department. Firefighters responded around 2:40 a.m. to the apartment near South Maryland Parkway and East Flamingo Road and knocked the blaze down several minutes later.

Fire crews found evidence of property vandalism while fighting the fire, Newman reported.

Damage is estimated at $10,000, and no injuries were reported.

Metro officers and Clark County fire investigators continue to look into the incident.

The American Red Cross was called to assist the female occupant with shelter and clothing.
