Natural gas shut off after pipe ruptured during dig

Updated Wednesday, June 12, 2013 | 12:06 p.m.

Natural gas has been shut off to a pipe ruptured Wednesday morning while a Las Vegas Valley Water District employee was digging on Pacific Terrace Drive, near Vegas Boulevard and Buffalo Drive.

The leak prompted Las Vegas Fire & Rescue officials to order the occupants of seven homes to stay inside until the gas could be shut off, fire department spokesman Tim Szymanski said.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters were called to the scene at 9:50 a.m. and left an engine and rescue vehicle on standby. The gas was shut off at 10:52 a.m., and Southwest Gas crews were working to repair the leak, he said.
