Officials: Arrest made after fire at Vegas church

Updated Friday, June 14, 2013 | 4:33 p.m.

Fire officials say a person has been arrested after an overnight blaze damaged the entrance to a Las Vegas-area Baptist church.

Police arrested 35-year-old Adrian Kincaid on counts of first-degree arson and burglary.

Deputy Clark County Fire Chief Erik Newman tells The Associated Press that investigators think the man taken into custody early Friday had a dispute with someone at Nellis Baptist Church before the fire was discovered about 3 a.m.

No injuries were reported.

Newman says county and North Las Vegas firefighters quickly doused flames outside double doors of the structure at 4300 Las Vegas Boulevard North.

Damage was estimated at about $100,000 damage, a Clark County spokesman said. The church’s insurance company was evaluating to see if the structure could be saved, the spokesman said.

The church is home to two separate congregations – the Nellis Baptist Church which has about 400 members and Mission International Roca Eterna, which has about 70 members.

Las Vegas Sun reporter Conor Shine and the Associated Press contributed to this report.
