BOSTON — A former FBI supervisor has acknowledged allowing convicted FBI Agent John Connolly to include false or misleading information in reports he put in James "Whitey" Bulger's FBI informant file.
John Morris made the acknowledgement as he was cross-examined Friday during Bulger's racketeering trial.
Bulger is accused of participating in 19 murders during the 1970s and '80s while he was allegedly leading the Winter Hill Hang while simultaneously providing information to the FBI on the New England Mafia and other criminals.
Bulger denies being an informant. His lawyers have suggested that Connolly — who Morris supervised — fabricated Bulger's informant file. Connolly was convicted of tipping off Bulger to an indictment, prompting him to flee Boston in 1994 and remain one of the nation's most wanted fugitives until his capture in 2011.
