Explosion rocks neighborhood, causes $45K in fire damage to home

Explosion and Fire

An explosion Thursday morning in an east-central Las Vegas home sparked heavy flames and smoke in the home’s rear and attic, Clark County Fire Deputy Chief Jon Klassen said.

Shortly before 9 a.m., emergency dispatchers received multiple calls from people reporting a large explosion along with a series of smaller ones coming from a home in the 3900 block of San Andreas Avenue, near Sandhill Road and Tropicana Avenue.

Klassen said the home’s occupant tried to extinguish the fire on his own, but it was too strong. Firefighters arrived to discover the patio engulfed in flames.

The fire caused an estimated $45,000 in damage to the home. The occupant was treated at the scene for minor injuries, Klassen said.

County fire investigators have not determined what caused the explosion and fire.
