A brush fire that broke out just after midnight Tuesday at Sunset Park scorched a section of grass but didn’t spread to any equipment or structures, Clark County Fire officials said.
The cause is unknown, but the fire could have been ignited by a discarded cigarette or spread from a fire a homeless person set to stay warm, officials said.
There was no record of lightning or power equipment in the area that could have sparked the blaze, fire officials said.
It took fire fighters until about 1:30 a.m. to put out the fire at the park at the corner of Sunset Road and Eastern Avenue, officials said.
Sunset Park Located in the southeast part of the Las Vegas Valley and diagonally across from McCarran Airport, Sunset Park is the focus of a surprising number of activities. Almost every day a group is having an event or activity there. One of the most prominent features of Sunset Park is the lake.
