Ruptured fuel tank causes spill, traffic jam on Interstate 15

A fuel spill on Interstate 15 near Sahara Avenue on Thursday morning is causing severe traffic delays that are expected to persist for several hours.

The spill comes from the rupture of a tractor-trailer’s gas tank, which caused the left two lanes of southbound I-15 to close for several hours while crews cleaned up the mess, Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Loy Hixson said.

All lanes of traffic were open as of 7 a.m., he said. But the backed up traffic combined with the usual morning rush means delays should be expected for several hours, he said.
