It hasn’t been the most memorable of seasons for Del Sol, but at least it got to end the season on a high note.

The Dragons earned their first victory of the season, beating Eldorado, 28-20.

“Even though the losses mounted, we got better each week,” first-year Del Sol coach Gary Maki said. “We weren’t finishing games, but we gained confidence.

“Overall, it was a good way to end the season.”

Senior Austin Higgins left it all on the field, rushing for 158 yards with two touchdowns to lead the way.

“He’s been our workhorse,” Maki said. “We’ll make a push to make him all-league because he’s that type of talent. He’s been a good kid.”

With the 2013 campaign behind them, Maki is already looking ahead to next season. He expects to have a majority of his team back, which should help the Dragons (1-8, 1-4 Sunrise Southeast) next season.

“Winning hasn’t been a big thing at Del Sol in recent years,” Maki said. “We’ve taken steps.”

Eldorado finished the season 1-8 (0-5).
