Coroner IDs 2 people killed in weekend traffic incidents

Two people killed in separate traffic incidents over the weekend have been identified as 19-year-old Iveth Cruz of North Las Vegas and 60-year-old Juge Brooks of Las Vegas, according to the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

A vehicle struck and killed Brooks on Friday while he was walking east across Martin Luther King Boulevard in a crosswalk at Bartlett Avenue, Metro Police said. The vehicle, traveling north, failed to yield.

Brooks was transported to University Medical Center, where he died about 30 minutes later from multiple blunt force injuries to the head and extremities, coroner’s officials said.

Cruz was in the passenger seat of a car speeding north along North Maryland Parkway, south of Bonanza Road, when it lost control as it approached a curve, police said. The vehicle flipped and slid into the center median, hitting a light pole, police said.

Cruz died from multiple injuries, coroner’s officials said.
