DENVER — Denver police say two juveniles who entered an empty school building late Monday armed with what appeared to be two long rifles were carrying BB guns.

The department said in a tweet on Tuesday that two backpacks that were recovered contained items the youths were attempting to steal.

The school reopened Tuesday after police searched the building.

Police were called after two youths were seen by a cleaning crew breaking in to KIPP Montbello College Prep Middle School. Police said the youths also ransacked school rooms.
