Two people injured when cars collide in intersection

A man was in critical condition and another was seriously injured in a two-car crash Sunday night.

Metro Police responded about 11:50 p.m. to the intersection of East Lake Mead Boulevard and Walnut Road.

A man in a Nissan sedan was driving east on Lake Mead Boulevard, crossing Walnut Road, when the driver of a Toyota sedan on Walnut attempted to cross the intersection at the same time, police said.

The two cars collided, forcing the Toyota off the road and into a vacant lot, police said.

The driver of the Nissan, Sigifredo Monarrez, 55, of Las Vegas, was transported to University Medical Center in critical condition, police said.

A passenger in the Toyota, Mauricio Artiga, 39, was taken to UMC in serious condition, police said.
