A man accused of driving drunk and recklessly has been arrested in connection with a Halloween wreck that killed a teenage mother and critically injured an elderly couple.

North Las Vegas Police on Wednesday arrested Leonard Novell Walker II after determining that he caused the Oct. 31 wreck that killed Savannah McInnis, 17, near the intersection of Ann Road and Coleman Street.

Officer Chrissie Coon said Walker remained at the crash site and cooperated with the investigation, which revealed that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the wreck and that his blood alcohol content was over the legal limit.

He also was traveling at more than 77 mph in a 45 mph zone, “which presented a reckless disregard for the safety of other motorists,” Coon said.

Walker, whose age was not provided late Thursday, was arrested Wednesday about 4 p.m. on three counts of reckless driving resulting in death or substantial bodily harm, one count of DUI causing death and two counts of DUI causing substantial bodily harm. Bail was set at $200,000.

McInnis was pronounced dead at the scene, and a 74-year-old man and his 72-year-old wife who were riding in the car were rushed to an area hospital in critical condition. The teenager’s 2-year-old son was also riding in the car but he was not seriously hurt.

Since the wreck, the elderly woman has been released from the hospital, Coon said. Her husband remains in critical condition.
