Police officer hit by car

A North Las Vegas Police motorcycle officer was hit by a car Sunday night in North Las Vegas.

The collision occurred at about 9:30 p.m. at Martin Luther King Boulevard and Cheyenne Avenue, North Las Vegas Police spokeswoman Chrissie Coon said. Witnesses reported that a Saturn sedan was stopped at a red light on Cheyenne Avenue when the driver decided to cross the intersection for an unknown reason before the light changed, Coon said. At the same time, a police officer was traveling north on Martin Luther King Bouelvard, crossing Cheyenne.

The sedan then hit the police officer, Coon said. The officer was transported to University Medical Center with nonlife-threatening injuries. No one else was injured in the collision.
