Dog dies in Summerlin house fire; 5 people displaced

House fire

Five people were displaced from their Summerlin home Saturday night after a house fire that killed their pet dog.

Las Vegas Fire & Rescue responded about 7:50 p.m. to reports from an occupant of smoke coming from the rear and garage at 1816 Glory Creek Drive, near Vegas and Buffalo drives. Firefighters discovered the fire in the kitchen and extinguished it in a few minutes, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue spokesman Tim Szymanski said.

While searching the home, firefighters discovered the occupants’ dog. Firefighters attempted CPR but were unable to revive the dog, Szymanski said. No one else was in the home or injured in the incident.

Fire investigators determined the fire started in a kitchen cabinet with electrical items in it. The fire was ruled accidental, but investigators could not determine an official cause, Szymanski said.

The fire damaged the kitchen and caused about $60,000 in damage to the home.
