Flooding at Flamingo and Swenson slowing traffic

Water on Flamingo Road

A leaking water pipe flooded a construction site where, ironically, a storm drain was being installed.

The flooding was forcing crews to pump water across Flamingo Road at Swenson Street this afternoon and was expected to slow traffic for about the next 10 hours, Las Vegas Valley Water District spokesman Bronson Mack said.

The road was expected to remain open.

The leak occurred after a contractor last week worked on the water line. When the contractor returned, there was a leak causing a flood in an excavated area under construction, Mack said.

To continue construction, workers were forced to pump the excess water across Flamingo Road into another storm drain.
