Henderson Police up for accreditation review

Law enforcement inspectors will be assessing the Henderson Police Department next week to determine if it maintains its accreditation status.

A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) will determine if the department’s policy and procedures, operations management and support services meet its standards.

In addition to its review, Henderson residents and agency employees are also invited to comment at a public information session at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, at the Henderson City Council Chambers. Residents can also call 702-267-4897 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. to provide comment to the assessment team.

Henderson Police will undergo the rigorous Gold Standard Assessment, which consists of 481 different standards.

The department first earned accreditation through CALEA in March 2002, joining 589 other U.S. law enforcement agencies. CALEA’s standards and accreditation are recognized by major law enforcement associations, educational and training institutions and government agencies.

CALEA requires reaccreditation assessments every three years. The commission will conduct a hearing in March 2014 to determine if the department has earned reaccreditation status.
