A fire erupted tonight inside the Meadows Mobile Home Park just west of Interstate 15.

Flames broke out about 10 p.m. at a home inside the park in the 2900 block of South Valley View Boulevard, near Sahara Avenue.

Las Vegas Fire & Rescue spokesman Tim Szymanski said heavy fire could be seen underneath the home when emergency responders arrived. The flames have since been contained.

Officials determined that the fire started by a careless smoker on a staircase outside the home. The blaze caused an estimated $10,000 in damage. No injuries were reported.

The American Red Cross is offering temporary housing assistance to a man living inside the trailer home.
