Extension cord blamed for starting apartment fire

One person was displaced from their apartment today after an extension cord caused a fire in a bedroom, fire department officials said. No one was injured.

Las Vegas Fire & Rescue and the Clark County Fire Department responded about 5:25 a.m. to the fire at 230 W. Boston Ave., near Sahara Avenue and Industrial Road. Firefighters extinguished the fire in about five minutes, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue spokesman Tim Szymanski said.

The fire was confined to the area surrounding a bed and caused about $15,000 damage, Szymanski said.

Investigators ruled the fire accidental. An extension cord being using to run power from an upstairs apartment to the downstairs unit that caught fire was blamed for the blaze, Szymanksi said.
