Man apparently shoots estranged wife, himself, police say

A man apparently shot his estranged wife dead Wednesday before turning the gun on himself at her home in the southwest valley, police said.

Officers discovered the couple's bodies about 6:30 p.m. while conducting a welfare check at their residence on the 5600 block of Thunder Spirit Street, near Russell Road and Grand Canyon Dr., Metro Police said. Relatives had summoned officers to the location because they were unable to get a hold of the couple.

Police said the husband and wife had apparently been having marital problems and were currently separated. Homicide detectives believe the man had gone to the woman's home to discuss their relationship when he shot her.

Officials have not yet released their identities. No other details about the incident were released late Thursday.

Anyone with information about the apparent murder-suicide is urged to call Metro Police at (702) 828-3521 or Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555.
