Two drivers simultaneously lost control of their cars Sunday morning, crashing into a light pole and a utility pole, and leaving a driver and a passenger in critical condition.
Metro Police responded to the crashes about 4:30 a.m. on Durango Drive, south of Desert Inn Road. A woman driving one of the cars was arrested on a count of driving under the influence, Metro Police officials said.
Evidence and witnesses indicated that a red Chevrolet Camaro and a black Camaro were speeding south on Durango when they lost control of their cars at the intersection with Desert Inn Road, Metro said. The red car slid into a light pole and a palm tree, and the black car hit a large utility pole.
The driver and passenger of the black car were taken to University Medical Center with critical injuries, Metro said. The woman driving the red car suffered minor injuries.
Metro is investigating the collision.
