Man walking across tracks hit, killed by train

A man died Sunday night after a Union Pacific freight train hit him while he was walking across the railroad tracks.

The incident occurred about 6:30 p.m. some 300 feet from the nearest railroad crossing on Tropicana Avenue near Hacienda Avenue, Union Pacific Railroad spokesman Aaron Hunt said.

The man was pronounced dead on the scene. The Clark County Coroner's Office identified him as Greg Eckert, 32, of Las Vegas. He died of multiple injuries, officials said. Union Pacific is investigating the incident.
