Nobody expects a white Christmas in Las Vegas, but this is ridiculous.
The temperature at McCarran International Airport hit 73 degrees today, the highest temperature for this date since official records started being kept in 1937, National Weather Service meteorologist Nathan Foster said.
The previous record of 68 degrees was set in 1950, Foster said. The normal high for the day is 56 degrees.
The Las Vegas Valley has been under a high pressure system for the past few days with what could be described as a “warm bubble of air” over the area, Foster said.
Temperatures, however, are expected to cool down this week, with the high expected drop to about 51 degrees by Friday, he said. Clear skies are expected all week with a few high clouds.
The average high this month has been 5.7 degrees above the normal of 47.7, Foster said.
