Sandoval names Teska as director of Department of Administration

Gov. Brian Sandoval has named an analyst experienced in public school financing as state director of the Department of Administration who will prepare the 2015-17 budget.

Julia Teska, deputy superintendent of business and support for the state Department of Education, will succeed Jeff Mohlenkamp, who resigned the $127,721 a year job to take a government position in Walnut Creek, Calif.

Before taking her current post, Teska spent 10 years in school district financial administration in Santa Barbara, Calif., and six years with the Nevada Budget Division working with education and health and welfare agencies.

She has been with the state Education Department since May 2012.

The governor said Teska has an "intimate knowledge of the state budget," and Teska said Sandoval's priorities of improving education and mental health services have been goals of hers during her more than 20 years in local and state government.

In her new job, effective April 7, she will oversee 16 divisions and programs including the budget, buildings and grounds, the motor pool, purchasing and libraries.
