Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid was added today to Russia’s list of individuals barred from entering Russia “on the grounds of reciprocity in connection with American sanctions concerning Ukraine and Crimea.”
The list names nine people and includes five U.S. senators: Reid, Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Menendez, D-NJ, Mary Landrieu, D-La., Dan Coats, R-Ind., and John McCain, R-Ariz.
It also includes House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, as well as deputy national security advisers Caroline Atkinson and Benjamin Rhodes, and senior adviser Dan Pfeiffer.
The release of the list came almost simultaneously with an announcement from President Barack Obama that the U.S. would sanction members of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s inner circle, as well as freeze Bank Rossiya out of the U.S. dollar.
The sanctions list gets the English spelling of Reid’s name wrong, but the description and placement of his name makes the designation unmistakable.
A spokeswoman for Reid did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment.
