House used by squatters catches fire in south valley

Officials are investigating a suspicious fire this morning that damaged a vacant house used by squatters in the south valley, according to the Clark County Fire Department.

Nobody was in the house at the time and no injuries were reported, officials said.

The fire was reported about 3 a.m. at a single-story house in the 1000 block of Count Wutzke Avenue, near Maryland Parkway and Westminster Avenue.

Firefighters found heavy flames coming from the garage and front door but kept the blaze from spreading to nearby structures, officials said. The house was full of items stored “in a dense and random manner,” according to a news release.

No damage estimate was immediately available.
