Plumber’s torch starts fire that causes $50,000 in damage

A plumber's torch started a house fire Saturday evening that caused almost $50,000 in damage.

Firefighters responded at 7 p.m. to the incident at 3600 Briarglen Lane, near Rancho and Vegas drives, where they found smoke coming from the attic of a one-story, wood-frame/stucco house, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue said in a press release.

They were able to extinguish the fire within minutes.

An investigation revealed that someone had been using a plumber's torch to work on a water pipe outside of the house when they noticed smoke coming from the wall and called 911, the department said.

The fire traveled up the wall and into the attic area, damaging both. The fire did not travel into the occupied portion of the house, but there was smoke damage, according to the department.

There were no injuries, but the occupants of the house have been displaced, according to the release.
