RENO — The Washoe County School District has approved a $100,000 settlement for the wife of a teacher who was killed trying to stop a student shooter.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the settlement approved by the School Board Tuesday will be paid in exchange for Sharon Landsberry not taking any legal action against the district.

The settlement comes after nearly two years of negotiations between attorneys representing Landsberry and the district.

The 45-year-old math teacher, Michael Landsberry was killed Oct. 21, 2013 by Jose Reyes, a seventh-grader who brought a pistol to school.

Landsberry was shot and killed while trying to protect other students. Reyes also shot and injured two students before killing himself.

Sharon Landsberry will get an additional $44,000 for the 148 sick days accrued by her husband.
