Body discovered in area man went missing at Lake Mead

Updated Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015 | 11:10 a.m.

A man’s body was recovered from Lake Mead on Tuesday in the same area a boater was reported missing last week, according to the National Park Service.

Volunteer search crews from Earth Resource Group using an underwater camera located the body about 8:30 a.m. in the Virgin Basin off Middle Point, officials said.

The body was turned over to the Clark County Coroner’s Office for identification and to determine cause of death.

The Lake Mead National Recreation Area Interagency Communications Center received multiple calls between 5 and 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 10 reporting an unoccupied boat floating in the lake, officials said.

Rangers found the 17-foot BassCat boat, but nobody was on board, officials said. A 67-year-old Henderson man set out to go fishing and is believed to have launched the boat about 4 a.m. at Callville Bay, Lake Mead National Recreation Area spokeswoman Christie Vanover said.

The National Park Service has been actively searching for the man with assistance from the U.S. Air Force, Nevada Army National Guard and volunteers from Earth Resource Group.

The incident is under investigation.
