Animal control removed about 60 cats from a Henderson apartment today after a tenant was evicted from it, according to police.

The Henderson Constable's Office was serving an eviction notice at the Victory Village Apartments, located at 501 E. Lake Mead Parkway, near North Boulder Highway, when they found the cats, Henderson Police spokeswoman Michelle French said.

Mostly adult cats and some kittens were removed from the residence and taken to the Henderson Animal Care and Control Facility, French said.

The owner of the cats was cited, she said. The owner was cited on five misdemeanor charges including failure to comply with mandatory spaying or neutering of dogs and cats, unlawful living conditions due to excessive animal waste and failure to provide animal adequate feed/water/vet care.

French said the cats appeared to be in good condition but are being evaluated.
