Bathroom fan sparks fire that displaces three from apartment

A bathroom ceiling fan sparked an apartment fire in the southern part of the valley that displaced three adults and two dogs Sunday morning.

According to the Clark County Fire Department:

At 11:42 a.m., crews responded to the fire at 5146 Golden Lane, near Tropicana Avenue and Maryland Parkway.

The fire had spread into the attic above the bathroom, and crews had to pull down the bathroom ceiling, as well as cut a hole in the roof, to attack the flames.

The fire did not spread to any other areas of the apartment, and it was extinguished around noon.

No injuries were reported, and a damage estimate was not available.

The displaced residents are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

Officials remind residents that ceiling fans should be cleaned regularly, as over time they can collect dust and lint, which could ignite when electric motors overheat from being left on.
