A man accused of fatally punching another man at the Paris valet area in May has been arrested, according to Metro Police.

De Angelo Mathews, 23, was rebooked into the Clark County jail Tuesday on a count of murder and was being held without bail, police said.

Mathews was already in jail and is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 12 in connection with a robbery case, according to court records. He was booked into jail Sept. 8 in the robbery case, according to jail records.

A plea agreement was filed in that case Nov. 3, court records show.

Police were called about 4:20 a.m. May 3 to the Strip hotel, where investigators believe 27-year-old DaShawn Antwon Fouch Hawkins was punched and fell to the ground, according to police.

Officers found him unconscious with an apparent head injury, and he was taken to University Medical Center, where he died, police said.

Investigators later identified Mathews as the suspect, police said.

His attorney, Andrew S. Flahive, declined to comment on the murder count.
