Updated Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015 | 2:21 p.m.

A hiker at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area who suffered serious injuries after falling about 80 to 100 feet this morning has died, according to Metro Police.

Police were called to the area about 11:45 a.m., Lt. Jeff Goodwin said.

Search-and-rescue crews were in the area to aid the injured adult, whose gender was not immediately available, but crews said the rescue effort was influenced by high winds, Goodwin said.

The hiker received first aid from other hikers but was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.

The name and official cause of death of the hiker will be released by the Clark County Coroner's Office.
